Graduate Admissions Frequently Asked Questions

• Do I need a Bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders (CSD) to apply to the Graduate Program?
  • No.  A Bachelor’s degree in CSD is not required.  However, our grad program does have a list of prerequisites, which is detailed on the Eligibility page.
• What general (or background) courses will I need for the Graduate Program?
  • ASHA certification standards (Standard IV-A) requires: statistics, biological science, physical science (physics or chemistry), and a social science.  For more information, refer to our Eligibility page.
• Is there a “cut-off” for GPA and GRE scores to apply?
  • Applications with an overall GPA of a 3.0 or greater will be considered and reviewed for admission.  On average, competitive applicants typically have a GPA (overall and CSD) of 3.8 or greater, with a GRE (verbal) of 150.  For more information, refer to our Admissions page.
• When is the application deadline?
  • February 1.
• Is the GRE required for admission?
  • Yes.
• How many students are enrolled in the speech-language pathology program each academic year?
  • Our goal is to have between 95 and 100 graduate students in our program.  (A total of 95 to 100 students in our first and second year cohorts, combined.)
• If admitted to the program, are students able to defer entrance?
  • Possibly.  Please contact the Graduate Program Coordinator to discuss.
• Where do students go for their externships?
  • Depending on the semester, students can find placement in regional medical and educational settings.  During the final semester of the program, students are able to find and apply to external placements all over the country.
